Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 1 January 2025 · Last Updated: 30 March 2026

TutorMeet Pte. Ltd. ("TutorMeet", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal data in compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 of Singapore ("PDPA").

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the TutorMeet platform (the "Platform"), including Tutors, Clients (individual and corporate), and Education Partners.

2. Types of Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

a. Identification Data

  • Full name, gender, date of birth
  • Your NRIC/FIN is used only transiently to verify your identity via Singpass and is not retained by TutorMeet — we keep only a verification flag, the verification date, and your Singpass identifier (see Section 3, “Singpass and Myinfo”)

b. Contact Information

  • Email address, phone number, residential or business address

c. Account Data

  • Login credentials, profile details, payment history

d. Educational and Professional Data

  • Qualifications, certifications, years of experience, uploaded documents, badges earned

e. Session and Activity Data

  • Booking history, lesson completion, feedback, progress updates, usage logs

f. Payment Information

  • Bank account details (for payouts), transaction records, invoice data

g. Corporate Data (for Corporate Clients and Partners)

  • UEN, registered business name, company address, representative identification

h. Communication Data

  • Messages sent and received through the Platform's in-app messaging system, including message content, sender and recipient identifiers, timestamps, and message type (e.g., text, booking request, system notification)
  • Content moderation metadata generated by automated safety systems (see Section 8)
  • Where a message has been modified by automated content moderation, the original message text may be retained separately for dispute resolution purposes

3. How We Collect Data

We may collect your data through:

  • Direct submission by users during registration and profile setup
  • Singpass or Corppass integration
  • Upload of supporting documents
  • Course enrolment and badge issuance
  • Activity on the Platform
  • Communication with our support team
  • Messages sent through the Platform's in-app messaging system
  • Automated content moderation systems that process messages sent on the Platform

Singpass and Myinfo

Where you choose to register or verify your identity using Singpass, we retrieve a limited set of government-verified personal details from Myinfo, with your consent given on Singpass's own consent screen. Singpass is optional — you can decline and register using email instead. We retrieve only the following Myinfo attributes, and only for the stated purpose:

  • Name — pre-fill your legal name; basis for the display name shown to the other party in a booking
  • Date of birth — confirm minimum-age eligibility and contextualise the learner's level
  • Sex — pre-fill the gender field (editable); relevant to guardian tutor-preference matching for a minor
  • Email — a verified contact channel for booking confirmations, reminders, and account recovery
  • Mobile number — a verified phone number for session-coordination notifications and account recovery
  • Academic qualifications (tutors only) — pre-fill your verified academic transcripts and certificates (OpenCerts) so you don't re-upload them; these are displayed to Clients as Singpass-verified credentials

Your NRIC/FIN (UINFIN) is used only momentarily to confirm your identity during the Singpass session and is not stored — we retain only the fact that your identity was verified, the verification date, and your Singpass identifier. All retrieved details are shown to you for confirmation before your account is created, and government-sourced fields are clearly marked as verified.

4. Purpose of Data Collection

We collect and use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To verify user identity and eligibility
  • To facilitate bookings, payments, and communication between users
  • To support session management and progress tracking
  • To issue badges and certifications from Education Partners
  • To administer user accounts and provide customer service
  • To fulfil legal and regulatory obligations
  • To send platform-related updates and marketing communications (with consent)
  • To maintain platform safety through automated and manual content moderation, including detection of prohibited content such as profanity, unsolicited contact information sharing, and other violations of our Terms of Service
  • To investigate and resolve disputes between users, which may include review of in-app message history by authorised TutorMeet staff when triggered by automated safety flags, user reports, or dispute proceedings
  • To enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety of our users and the integrity of the Platform

5. Disclosure of Personal Data

We may disclose your personal data:

  • To trusted third-party service providers (e.g., payment processors, hosting services)
  • To Education Partners when you enrol in a course
  • To regulatory authorities if required by law
  • To other users (e.g., displaying tutor qualifications to Clients)
  • To authorised TutorMeet staff when message content has been flagged by automated safety systems, reported by a user, or is relevant to an active dispute or legal proceeding. Access is governed by role-based permissions and subject to audit logging.

All data shared is on a need-to-know basis and only for fulfilling Platform-related purposes.

6. Data Retention

Your personal data will be retained for as long as:

  • Your account remains active
  • Required to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected
  • Required by applicable laws and regulations

Singpass / Myinfo data

  • Government-verified details retrieved from Myinfo (name, date of birth, sex, email, mobile number, and — for tutors — academic qualifications and certificates) are retained for the life of your verified account. On account deletion this Myinfo-derived data is deleted or anonymised promptly — it has no independent legal retention basis (it is not part of the financial-records exception described below).
  • Your NRIC/FIN (UINFIN) is not retained at any point; only a verification flag, the verification date, and your Singpass identifier are kept.

In-app messaging data

  • Message content is retained while your account is active. After account deletion or 24 months of account inactivity, message content is anonymised.
  • Original message text retained for content moderation and dispute resolution purposes is permanently deleted after 24 months.
  • Content moderation metadata (automated detection flags) follows the same 24-month retention period.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting support. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except records we are legally required to retain — for example, transaction and financial records kept for up to 5 years to meet Singapore tax and accounting obligations — which are securely disposed of once that period lapses. Message content is anonymised in accordance with the retention periods above, and data that is part of an active dispute or legal proceeding may be retained for the duration required to resolve the matter.

7. Protection of Data

TutorMeet implements industry-standard security practices to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption of sensitive data
  • Access controls and authentication protocols
  • Regular audits and compliance checks
  • Role-based access controls for staff access to user data, with audit logging of access to personal data

While we implement robust security measures, no method of digital transmission or storage is fully secure. Users are encouraged to use strong passwords and secure connections.

8. Content Moderation

To maintain a safe environment for all users, messages sent through the Platform's in-app messaging system are processed by automated content moderation systems before delivery. These systems may:

  • Detect and filter profanity and inappropriate language
  • Detect and redact personal contact information (phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles, URLs) shared in violation of our Terms of Service
  • Flag conversations for review by authorised TutorMeet staff when repeated violations are detected

Where a message is modified by automated moderation, the original text is retained securely for a limited period (see Section 6) to support dispute resolution if needed. Authorised TutorMeet staff may review message content only when a conversation has been flagged by automated moderation, reported by a user, or is relevant to an active dispute or legal proceeding. TutorMeet does not conduct blanket monitoring of unflagged conversations.

TutorMeet does not use message content for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to platform safety, moderation, and dispute resolution.

9. User Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data, including messages sent and received through the Platform
  • Correct or update inaccurate data
  • Withdraw consent to data collection (subject to legal requirements)
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Request a copy of your in-app messaging history

To exercise any of these rights, please reach us through our contact form. We will respond to access requests within 30 days in accordance with PDPA guidelines.

10. Use of Cookies and Analytics

We may use cookies and analytics tools to enhance platform performance and personalise user experience. Users may manage cookie settings through their browser.

11. Changes to this Policy

TutorMeet may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the Platform. Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
